Ramesh Powar re-elected as women’s team coach

Former off-spinner Ramesh Powar has been re-selected as the coach of the Indian women’s cricket team. He will replace WV Raman. Ramesh Powar was sacked as coach two years ago after the T20 World Cup, but the BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) recommended his name after interviewing about 80 people.

Following the recommendation on Thursday, the board decided in the evening to select Powar as the coach of the women’s team. Powar has regained the post after a gap of two years. Powar was ousted two years ago after a feud with Mithali Raj and India’s most successful cricketer was dropped from the T20 World Cup.

A committee headed by Madanlal had interviewed several people, including Ajay Ratra and Hemlata Kala, before recommending the name of 42-year-old Powar. According to a BCCI list, the board on Thursday selected Ramesh Powar to be the coach of the Indian women’s cricket team. The board announced this following 35 applications.

Madanlal said that Ramesh Powar has a clear vision and plans for the future of the Indian women’s cricket team. He can lead the team to success. Ramesh Powar was the coach of the Indian women’s team during the 2018 T20 World Cup but was sacked due to a fallout and a rift with Mithali Raj.

The CAC, headed by former Test cricketer Madan Lal, recommended Ramesh Powar after conducting all the interviews. Off-spinner Ramesh Powar has played international cricket for India. The BCCI had earlier said that this time we have received a recommendation for Ramesh Powar’s name.

Apart from Powar, five women cricketers are in the fray this time, including Ajay Ratra and current selector of the women’s team Hemlata Kala. WV Raman has been the coach of the women’s team for some time now and his term is coming to an end.
